Test Knitting

I just finished a test knit for a friend, Amber, of Denison, TX. She is a budding knitwear designer and asked me to do a 'test' for the test knit on Ravelry. She will be offering her pattern for sale in the near future and I pray she does well in her endeavor.

I enjoyed knitting her pattern and giving a couple of suggestions. One thing I learned....I have trouble getting 5.5 spi with worsted yarn. I like to knit loosely and I ended up having to go to a size 4 needle and even then the blocked arm warmer isn't as small as I had hoped. I may have over blocked it. I will give it another try later and not block it much and see what difference it makes. This has been a good learning experience for me and I look forward to doing this again.

Receiving Blankets

I totally let the time get away from me this time around when it comes to helping my daughter get ready for this baby. I finally got the flannel bought as well as some fleece and all I need to do is serge the cut edges and throw it all in the wash to get ready to make receiving blankets. I will use a double thickness and make a dozen reversible blankets. There is enough fleece to make a couple of larger blankets for the crib.

He's Here!

Joshua Bradley Martinez arrived this evening weighing 6 lbs 5 oz and 19 1/2 in long with a head of hair! Mom and baby are doing fine. Really need to get that blanket done now...

Wrist Warmers

In between bouts of working on the baby blanket, which due to the small needles and finer yarn is making my hands ache, I was playing around with some thicker yarn for wrist warmers. I finished one, now I just need to make one to match. (Taking a decent picture of your own arm can be a bit of a challenge and the photo doesn't show the cable pattern very well.)

Winter Wonderland

Monday we had a winter storm blow through north Texas and dump sleet and snow on us. The temperature has stayed below freezing all week and last night it started snowing again. We have about 5 inches on top of what was already there. I know it is a great inconvenience to a lot of folks who are out of work this week and those who have to reschedule classes, etc., but I am enjoying the beauty of it all before it is gone.

Baby Alert!

Daughter called today and labor will be induced on Monday. So much for having another week to finish this blanket, lol. Must....Knit....Faster!
